“Walking As One In Christ” by Nancy Dufresne

In recent months, God has been having me minister much on who we are in Christ, for the key to walking in victory every day in this natural arena is to know who you are in the spiritual arena – you are IN CHRIST!

When we know who we are and what belongs to us in Christ, and we walk in the light of that, faith issues become a thing of the past – we come into the highest order of faith.

Paul instructs us, “As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him. Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving” (Col. 2:6 & 7, AMPC).

Paul tells us to “walk” as one in Christ. The term “walk” is referring to the way we conduct our daily life – it’s our daily way of living and operating. The scripture listed above states, “… walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.” It is to be evident in our daily life that we are one with Him, that we are in union with Him and conforming our life to Him. This elevates our life.

We aren’t just trying to have better behavior, but we are drawing on and yielding to the Greater One within us in our everyday life – we are spending Him who is within us, and that elevates us into a higher flow of life.

We have more than ourselves to draw on – we have HIM! It’s as we draw on and yield to Him in our daily situations that our life conforms to Him.

The Living Bible translation reads, “And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with him” (Col. 2:6).

We are to trust Him for each day’s problems, not just for the emergency moments of life. The next phrase tells us how to do that – “…live in vital union with Him.” This speaks of our fellowship with God. When we live in unbroken, ongoing fellowship with God, it’s easy for us to draw on Him for each day’s problems.

Notice again the instruction the above verse gives us, “… Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him….” It is up to us to do this, not God!

How do we have our roots planted firmly and deeply in Him, fixed and founded in Him? We are to feed on and meditate on the scriptures that reveal who He is in us and who we are in Him. We call those the “In Him” scriptures. (You can download the “In Him” scriptures for free on our website at JesusTheHealer.org.) As we feed on these and build them in our spirit through confessing, meditating, and acting on them, then we see who He made us to be, and our roots grow down deeper into Him, and we end up drawing more and more on Him – putting Him to work for us in every situation – drawing on the ability He gives. We begin to see ourselves based on who He made us to be – not just seeing ourselves naturally, but seeing ourselves as one in Him.

The Living Bible translation of verse 7 reads, “Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught….” We continue to grow strong in Him as we do the truth we are taught.

The last phrase of verse 7 in TLB translation tells us, “…Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done.” When we experience what it means to our life to be one with Him and to draw on Him who is within us, we can’t help but be joyful and thankful for all He has done!

Then Paul finishes off this passage in Colossians 2:9 & 10 by writing, “For in Christ there is all of God in a human body; so YOU HAVE EVERYTHING WHEN YOU HAVE CHRIST, AND YOU ARE FILLED WITH GOD THROUGH YOUR UNION WITH CHRIST. He is the highest Ruler, with authority over every other power” (TLB).

What a stunning statement! “You have EVERYTHING when you have Christ.” That’s the end of struggle! That’s the end of worry! That’s the end of fear! In Christ, we already have available to us all that we could ever need!

God put into Christ everything that He wanted us to have – then He put Christ in us and us in Christ!

How that elevates life. We are no longer living as common ones – we are God-filled!

Now, let’s continue to draw on Him in our daily life and live the life God intended for us!
