“In Him We Live & Move & Have Our Being” by Nancy Dufresne
Who we are in Christ is the foundation of our redemption, and when we establish this revelation in our own spirit, we come into the highest order of faith – the struggle is over! There is no struggle to faith for us when we discover who we are in Him and who He is in us. When we think, speak, and act as one in Christ, our life is transformed.
One all-encompassing statement is found in Acts 17:28. “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.” He has left Himself out of no aspect of our existence – our life, our movements, and our entire being!
“For in Him we live….” HE is the sustaining force of our life! For us to really live in the highest sense of the word, we must learn to draw on Him, yield to Him, and put Him to work for us in our everyday life. We do that by acknowledging Him every day and obeying Him, recognizing that He fills us with Himself so that He can work through us. As we obey His Word and follow His Spirit, then He can manifest through us, filling our obedience with His ability. For us to really live the fullness of the life He authored for us, it requires Him working through us. We must yield and respond to Him; the more we do, the more He can work and manifest.
The next phrase in Acts 17:28 reads, “For in Him…we move….” If we are moving in Him, we are moving in obedience to His Word and the leading of the Spirit within. We are to allow ourselves to be led by Him. He will direct us in moving with Him, and then He fills the movement that He directs with power. We are not to move apart from Him. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov. 3:6).
If we are moving with God, we are always advancing, making progress, and taking more ground. Faith moves with God – faith doesn’t hesitate and linger behind. Faith doesn’t hold back or remain stationary.
Acts 17:28 continues, “For in Him…we have our being.” He is the life, supply, and support for the whole man, for our entire being – spirit, soul, and body.
Paul said, “…and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)” (1 Thess. 5:23 AMPC).
When we are drawing on Him, on who we are in Christ for our spirit, soul, and body, we will “…be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” That’s the only way to live blameless and to enjoy the fullness of the life He authored for us – to draw on who we are in Him, allowing Him to manifest through us.
He is the supply for “our being” – our threefold being – spirit, soul, and body. First, for our spirit, strengthening us with might in our inner man so that our spirit is strong and fortified. His Word is the food for our spirit and our faith. Second, for our soul (mind, will, and emotions). To have a mind that’s peaceful, sound, and disciplined is part of our inheritance in Christ. God became an Author and recorded His thoughts for us – the Word of God. He offers us HIS thoughts! So, we take them! We lay down any thoughts that are in opposition to His – we take on His way of thinking – and when we do, our mind is renewed and runs out wrong thinking, helping us keep the door closed to the enemy. Third, He is the supply for our body. His words are life, health, and medicine to all our flesh (Prov. 4:22). His Word is the medicine He prescribes. We take His Word by feeding on it, meditating on it, and acting on it. As we do, our body is restored, healed, and made whole, bringing us into the flow of divine health.
Let’s make this our confession and meditation all throughout the day – “In Him I live, move, and have my being!”
